Repair

Residential

Denver Backflow Specialists offers repairs to both backflow preventers and irrigation lines for residential customers. Repairs are billed separately from either residential backflow inspections or winterization or spring turn-on procedures, but can commonly be addressed at the same visit. We carry most parts to quickly fix common residential backflow problems.

Customers with breaks in the copper, PVC or poly pipe in your lawn sprinkler system are difficult for most homeowners to address, but there are some quick fixes to slow or stop the flow of a burst pipe. These are all temporary fixes and a proper burst pipe repair should be completed by a professional. Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Shut off the water at the irrigation supply valve. This will stop the leak on anything in your irrigation system.
  2. Use a screw clamp and a sturdy piece of rubber to cover the hole, screwing the clamp tight over the rubber covering the hole.
  3. Go to the local hardware store and get some plumbers leak putty. This stuff works, but long term it is not the solution as the putty weakens over time and eventually fails.
  4. Call a professional lawn sprinkler contractor. At Denver Backflow Specialists we can handle a burst pipe repair on any type of pipe, so contact us today to get on our schedule.

Commercial

We can often repair a commercial backflow device at the time of inspection and carry backflow parts for Watts, Febco, Wilkins, Ames and many other backflow brands. We are certified backflow testing and repair specialists and are required to determine that all backflow assemblies show at least 1.0 pounds per square inch differential, or PSID, between checks. If the PSID is equal then that means there is no backflow prevention.

Certified technicians are required to restore the backflow prevention assembly to their original factory specifications. Before we can actually start a repair we notify the customers, especially because it will require the water to be turned off to the preventer, which can interfere with normal commercial operations.

As such we often have to conduct backflow prevention repairs during off-hours to accommodate commercial water users. Also most irrigated fire systems have alarms, so the fire department must be alerted prior to working on repairs.

Proper backflow preventer repairs require specialized training, for instance when the water system is being de-pressurized technicians must ensure that no backflow conditions are created. We are required by Colorado law and Denver Water not only to be properly certified, but to be recertified every three years.
